Fort McMurray Family Dentists

Wisdom teeth are the third molars in the back of your mouth that come in during your late teens or early 20s however all these teeth may not come through for everyone.

If your wisdom teeth do come in, you can feel discomfort and pain as they grow. We know this can cause you to be uncomfortable making the little tasks in life more difficult, because all you are focusing on is the pain.

Let us stop your suffering by extracting these molars to help you get rid of the pain or prevent it from happening in the first place.

Aftercare Instructions
Post-operative care is very important. Unnecessary pain and the complications of infection and swelling can be minimized if the instructions are followed carefully. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns following your extraction at 780-790-0088.

Problems Arising When

Wisdom Teeth Grow In

● Your wisdom teeth may not break through your gums resulting in infection, damage to other bone and teeth or a cyst

● Your mouth can be too little for your wisdom teeth making it difficult to break through your gums

● Wisdom teeth can come through at a weird angle with the top tooth facing back, forward or to the side

● Your wisdom teeth may only break part way through your gums causing a gum tissue flap over these teeth allowing germs and food to get trapped creating swollen, painful and red gums that become infected

Do you have a fear of wisdom tooth extraction process because you are unaware of what is about to happen? We will provide you with all the information you need before an extraction and even give some insight into the process below.

Process Of A Wisdom
Tooth Extraction

Fort McMurray Family Dental

Removal of your wisdom teeth can be done with local freezing or general anesthetic. Our dental professionals at Franklin Dental are very careful not to damage the surrounding teeth or bone when extracting wisdom teeth. Directly after the procedure a small piece of sterilized gauze is placed over the area for about 15-20 minutes to help prevent bleeding.

Recovery Aids

● Periodically biting down gently on the gauze and changing it each time it becomes soaked with blood
● Put an ice pack outside your cheek during the first 24 hour period for 15-20 minutes each time
● Use pillows to prop your head up
● Eat soft foods
● Steer clear of rubbing or touching the area
● Avoid strenuous exercise
● Hold off from sucking on a straw because this can loosen blood clotting and delay the healing process
● Use moist heat for the 2-3 days that follow the treatment
After a 24-hour period, rinse with warm salt water several times during a day

It is vitally important to avoid brushing your teeth for 24 hours after your tooth or teeth have been extracted.

Things To Remember With Widsom Teeth Extractions

The next day you can start gently brushing around the extracted area, continuing this for the balance of the recovery time. DO NOT drive, drink alcohol or operate machinery after your oral surgery. Make sure someone is there to drive you to the dentist and pick you up and stay with you afterwards to ensure you are ok and provide help if you need it. All the bleeding should halt after 24 hours but if it continues please come see us immediately.

Our suggestion is that you get your wisdom teeth taken out in your late teens or early 20s for easier removal and quicker recovery. Most wisdom teeth problems happen between 15-25 years of age.

We want you to have the best oral health possible and avoid extremely negative issues that can arise later in life therefore we offer these procedures for your ultimate oral comfort.
