Why You Need to Visit Your Dentist Before Your Holiday

Every year, you look forward to enjoying time off from work. A couple of weeks relaxing on a sandy beach, a visit to your family who lives in California or a trip of a lifetime overseas is the best part of the year. You plan everything right down to the type of footwear and earrings you will be taking. But as you go over your list of vacation must-haves, you have forgotten one crucial thing, a visit to the dentist. Why do you need to go to the dentist before you go on holiday? Here are some reasons you should consider an oral check-up before your vacation.

Photo Ready Smile

Your teeth are not as white as you would like them. Years of morning coffee, red wine and your favourite bubble gum ice cream have stained your teeth. Why not get your teeth whitened before you head out on a vacation? You’ll be taking a lot of photos to remember your holiday trip and you want to make sure your teeth are gleaming in every shot. Visiting your dentist for teeth whitening that is quick and painless and the perfect way to show off your best smile.

Hidden Decay or Worse

No one wants to discover a cavity or require a dentist while on vacation. Travelling around the globe is fun and exciting but requiring the services of a dentist outside of your home town can lead to costly services and time away from your holidays. If you end up needing to have an emergency trip to a dentist to fill a painful cavity or attend to an abscessed tooth while on vacation, it could ruin your whole holiday. Finding a dentist in a foreign country where you may not speak the language is difficult enough but finding good dental services away from home may be next to impossible. Be sure to visit your dentist for a check-up before you leave on vacation so any issues with your teeth can be attended to by your own dentist. You’ll save time, money and be able to relax on your much-needed holiday.

It’s Not Just About You

You have been to the dentist, have been given a clean bill of health for your oral cavity, and are ready for holiday time! Your bags are packed and you are ready to check-in to your flight but wait, your youngest child has just encountered some serious pain in their back molar. You should have listened to your spouse and taken the whole family to the dentist for a check-up last month. Before heading out on your family vacation, you need to ensure every member of the family has had their regular dental visit. Children often forget about maintaining their oral health and you don’t need to discover this just before you step on the plane. Make sure everyone in the family enjoys their vacation by visiting the dentist to check on their teeth and gums, avoiding last-minute dental disasters.

Go ahead and book that vacation of a lifetime or a visit to Grandma’s house for the holidays but be sure your dentist is at the top of your list of things to do before heading out the door. Having great oral health can eliminate a mouthful of disaster and instead let you enjoy every mouthful of each delicious holiday treat!
