Overlooked dental hygiene facts and how you can change this

Detrimental Results from Negative Childhood Oral Hygiene

Many people consider children’s oral hygiene as less important than adults’, but this is a huge mistake. Neglected oral health or even just the postponement of it can lead to larger health issues such as chronic pain. Your children may even experience reduced quality of life due to being mentally agitated from this issue. According to the Royal College of Surgeons of England, tooth decay is the leading cause of children being admitted to the hospital.

Small dental issues can grow into bigger problems if left untreated. Think of how your child feels when they have to deal with crooked or ill-situated teeth. Misaligned teeth can cause jaw pain and confidence issues, but you don’t have to let it. You can go to a dental clinic to fix any of your child’s oral health issues that may arise.

Perhaps you are just unaware that your child needs a visit to the dentist. Head to a dental care centre so your child can get routine check-ups. You want to do everything you can to avoid future issues.

Poor Oral Health of Seniors

Often, as people age, visiting the dentist becomes less of a priority in their life. As a result, seniors’ oral health problems are routinely overlooked. Not going to the dental clinic regularly could lead to severe health consequences such as diabetes and osteoporosis. As you age, your body is more prone to complications and so you need to take extra care to prevent the things that can make you sick. Going to a dental care centre is a way to stay healthy.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 70% of people ages 65 and older have gum disease compared to the 47% of adults under this age. Gum disease can cause you to lose your teeth and has been linked to diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Stress Levels Concerning Oral Health Issues

Do you feel you have more oral health issues than normal? Stress could be a contributing factor to this. According to BMC Oral Health, stress negatively affects your oral hygiene causing you to grind and/or clench your teeth resulting in jaw issues. Stress is also the main culprit of dry mouth which is a leader in tooth decay and cavities.

No matter what age you are, many oral health risks come about with increased stress levels. Calm your mind and keep those teeth healthy by seeing a dentist regularly.

Going to the dental clinic is a preventative measure to keep your oral hygiene in check. You need to book regular appointments to keep your overall health in positive standing. Starting from childhood and continuing through into your senior years, if you take care of your teeth, your mind and body will thank you.
